Rules by Cynthia Lord
A Letter to a Character by Emily
Dear Catherine,
I am sorry that your brother has autism. And he isn't so normal but to tell you the truth: I also think that my brother is not so "normal" either because he is a very naughty and silly boy. For example, he jumps onto gorgeous sandcastles me and my friends make; he'll cry if things don't go his way.
But after a while I realized that no one is normal and everyone is different from each other. Actually you don't need all those silly rules. All you need is to accept one another. Don't try to lock yourself in your room just so you can focus on making those silly rules just to make your brother "normal' which can be very hard and almost impossible.
In this world no one is normal, so just accept it. More importantly, if everyone was the same, if everyone were normal, talked the same, walked the same and thought the same, wouldn't the world be super BORING?
Yours sincerely,
Emily

Emmy and the Incredible Shrinking Rat by Lynne Jonell
A Tasty Book by Mikayla
Take one plot where a girl shrinks.
Mix in one reliable friend, a rat, a boy, two professors and a wicked lady.
Sprinkle with some weird animals and a cunning rat.
Fold gently into a lesson which teaches that things will not happen the way you think it will.
What do you get? A book for all ages called Emmy and the Shrinking Rat.

The Cabbage Patch Fib by Paul Jennings
Paul Jennings is one of my favourite authors. His writing is hilarious and makes my stomach hurt I laugh so hard.
Read The Cabbage Patch Fib by Paul Jennings to learn how Chris an eight-year old boy takes care of a baby he found in a cabbage patch.
It all started when Chris' father told him that babies come from cabbage patches. Chris then finds himself a baby in a cabbage patch. Unfortunately, the baby only wants Chris, so Chris has to bring him to school. Read this novel to find out all about how Chris takes care of his baby including how Chris changes the baby's nappies!

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
I just finished this book yesterday and thought it was fantastic. There were some parts that made me cry. If you want a bit of a challenge, give this book a try.
The main character is Katniss Everdeen. She has been selected to take part in a battle with 23 other boys and girls aged 12 - 18. There is only one rule in the battle: kill or be killed. The lone survivor is the winner. Will Katniss survive or be killed by stronger warriors called Careers?
This book is a trilogy - one in a series of three. Read this book before the movie comes out!
